11038575_10153337958454921_2801384957796200815_nWe’re returning to Winchelsea and the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve on a summers evening! Starting at the football clubhouse in Winchelsea Beach and running along the smooth tarmac road inside Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Twilight Chase will be a low key, friendly affair limited to just 80 runners. The route is very flat (apart from the bump to get you in and out of the aid station), traffic free (service vehicles only, there is one minor road to cross), on a scenic path. Visit our aid station at the end of each lap, do as many 4.4 mile laps as you want in 6 hours. Let us know when you have finished and we’ll write down your time and distance, and give you your medal. If you start your last lap before 10pm, you can finish it. Free tea, coffee and our famous soup & roll. Of course, being summer, prepare for heat and be prepared to carry water if you need it more frequently than every lap. A donation per runner is made to the Sussex Wildlife Trust who run manage the reserve.

Venue Information

Rye Bay FC, Dogs Hill Road, Winchelsea Beach, TN36 4LX

On site parking is not guaranteed, but we are allowed to park cars on the field if it is dry and firm which is likely in summer, by consent of the parish council. The remainder of the parking is on Dogs Hill Road. Please park on the barrier side as close to it as possible. It is residential so please be considerate and keep noise to a minimum particularly after dark. Car share if at all possible. There are also two very small car parks either side of the toilet block at the end of Dogs Hill Road. The closest post code is TN36 4LX.

Run HQ

ryebayfcRegistration will be indoors at Rye Bay Football Clubhouse, The closest post code is TN36 4LX. The clubhouse is in the large field next to Dogs Hill Road. You will see it when you arrive. Registration opens at 15:00. Numbers are collected from HQ on the day, nothing will be posted out. The clubhouse will have our aid station, and access to the route is via the field then a short slope. You will be able to access our aid station at the end of each lap. There are no other water points on the course (however if it is extremely hot like Rye Run 2 we will set up a water stop at the turnaround), so if you feel you will need more, please carry your own.
There is room to change and leave a bag. We will not be monitoring bags though so don’t leave valuables.

There are 3 toilets in the clubhouse. There is also a public toilet at the end of Dogs Hill Road, a short walk from Run HQ.

The course for Twilight Chase is a very simple, flat, out and back with no pebbles! There is a slight bump to get you in and out of the aid station. The course will be marked with arrows, mini flags and a cone! Please note, we do not have sole use of the paths, and certainly not right of way. Each lap is 4.4 miles, so for a marathon you will need to complete 6 laps. Sunset is at approximately 8:15, if you start a lap after 7:45, you must wear a head torch or carry a hand torch.

Briefing & Information

The run briefing will be 15 minutes before the start next to the clubhouse. It is important you listen to the briefing in case of any changes or venue specific information. The start will be on the Harbour Road the other side of the gate, to prevent a bottle neck at the start. This means that the first lap is 0.03 miles shorter. This event will be held under UK Athletics rules, a permit for this run has been applied for from the Trail Running Association. If you complete marathon distance or further, this run will count towards membership of the 100 Marathon Club.

Aid Station

The aid station will be just inside the clubhouse, and will be stocked with fruit, cake, crisps, nuts, sweets, biscuits, water and squash! You are welcome to bring your own drinks/supplies and leave them on the seperate table we will put out for you.

On the entry form we ask if you are vegan or vegetarian. This is so we can tailor the aid station to our runners. 3 out of the 4 of us are vegan. If you have any vegan or vegetarian suggestions for the aid station, let us know and we’ll do our best to provide them. The soup & roll provided to finishers is vegan.

At the finish collect your We Run They Run I Run medal. We all love a good medal. The medal will be based on the Winchelsea Chase medal below, with new colours and ribbon!

Back in race HQ free unlimited tea and coffee will be available, along with home made soup and a roll while you wait for your friends to finish. You can also help “clear up” the aid station!
